Where belongings become fine art and decor
I start by researching the material.
Where did it come from? How was it made? What does it represent to the person who kept it? Does the material and it's components have meaning in a broader context?
Next I learn about the personal style and interests of the client along with the intended function or purpose of the piece.
Each piece is inspired by human nature.
A box of someone's saved ties
or every part of an old leather jacket make great pieces because they tell a human story.
Then I play with concept, form, color, and texture until it's art.
Limited materials like a box of 50 years worth of canning-jar lids provide those irresistible constraints (i.e., a color palette of only brass and rust and a set number of hoops and circles to work with) that let me tell a human story.
